Protub shelving

The Protub is certainly Provost's best-known shelving system. Invented in 1964 by Claude Provost, its revolutionary and extremely rapid assembly process revolutionized the market and set a benchmark.

Totally modular, the Protub can be assembled without screws or bolts, and a single man can assemble up to 25 linear meters of Protub shelving in 15 minutes. Thanks to its many advantages, sturdiness and practicality, Protub shelving is still used, manufactured and appreciated by its users after more than 50 years of existence.

The history of Protub

The history of the Protub is closely linked to Provost's development. The ingenuity of its design means that we can still offer it for sale more than 50 years after its invention:

  • In 1955, Claude Provost began making wooden chairs in a workshop on rue Gustave Desmettre in Halluin. After his military service, he moved to rue Maurice Simono, but continued to work alone;
  • In 1960, Claude Provost began manufacturing tubular frames for chairs and furniture;
  • In 1963, the Provost company employed 19 people;
  • In 1964, Claude Provost invents the Protub and its revolutionary assembly process, and registers a patent the same year to protect his invention;
  • In 1965, to meet growing demand, the workshop was moved to a new factory on rue Émile Zola, still in Halluin. The company diversified into furniture and handling equipment such as carts, pallets and metal containers;
  • In 1972, Provost had to expand again to keep pace with growing production needs: a new factory was built on rue de la Lys ;
  • In 2000, the historic site on rue Émile Zola in Halluin was closed to make way for a new logistics and sales platform in Neuville-en-Ferrain.

Protub structure and benefits

In over 50 years, the Protub shelving system's structure has remained unchanged, and is still based on the same principle: its shelves, fitted with 25 mm square uprights, are assembled together using sleeves. This system greatly simplifies the assembly of the shelving system, while ensuring a high degree of modularity in the choice of layout. Its sturdy structure will support 150 to 300 kg per level.

The Protub is also available in a wide range of formats: 2 heights (1875 or 2250 mm), 2 lengths (1000 or 1250 mm) and 6 depths (300 to 800 mm ) to meet all your storage needs. The Protub is also available with a wide range of accessories:

  • Wooden cover trays ;
  • Hanger bar with hangers;
  • Wire dividers;
  • Mesh or sheet metal bottoms and sides.
