Shelved archive storage in aisles

The room is organized in bays with single-sided or double-sided shelving units, depending on whether they are placed against a wall or in the aisles.

The units form wide main aisles and narrow secondary aisles (minimum 800 mm). The main aisles allow people to pass each other, while the secondary aisles are reserved for a single individual.

The entire floor-to-ceiling storage space is exploited, and handling play is kept to a minimum in order to optimize storage. Shelving is often more than 2 meters high, requiring the use of stepladders.

Open-sided racks with galvanized tubular shelves are preferred for this type of configuration, where cost is optimized.

Racks can be fitted with the following accessories:

  • Fiber cover plate
  • Retractable ladder
  • Consultation shelf
  • Aisle signs, label holders

Archives are handled by :

  • Narrow-width tiered carts
  • Constant-level carts
  • Fixed stepladders or narrow-width mobile stepladders

Archive storage on mobile shelving

In urban areas where it is impossible to extend buildings, and where land values are generally high, the aim is to optimize the installation's footprint by compacting it.

This is achieved by using shelving units mounted on mobile carts. The carts are moved according to the load by means of a manual handle or a steering wheel, which may be geared down. To optimize costs and cart movements, fixed racks are alternated with a series of mobile racks.

Each series of mobile racks will leave an empty aisle equivalent to 1 or 2 rack depths.

This type of installation is found in urban centers and shopping malls where building extension is impossible.

Racks can be fitted with the following accessories:

  • Anti-tilt system for high rack heights
  • Cart locks to prevent access to certain areas
  • Shelving floor and side panels
  • Aisle signs, label holders

Archives are handled by :

  • Narrow-width tiered carts
  • Constant-level carts
  • Fixed or mobile stepladders
